For the love of poppies…

Some of my  Instagram followers may already know that I have a bit of a ‘thing’ for poppies right now. The catalyst being a vaseful of the stunning Icelandic variety, which led to a full scale poppy hunt of the neighbourhood, photographing any I found growing wild along the way.

I was inspired to make these:

Why make one, when you can make two:

Below, are the materials I used:

The blooms were created using torn post-it ‘masks’.

Given the intensity of the red, I only wanted one focal bloom per card. Once I had finished inking the blooms, I hand-drew the stems and unopened buds in pencil, and added a touch of colour, using coloured pencils. Given that red poppies often symbolise remembrance, CASual Fridays ‘hope’ die  provided the sentiment I was seeking. Once the panel was complete, I adhered it to a black card base.

I would like to add this card to the following Challenges:

  1. Oh my goodness! You actually inked these yourself with your own masks? They are beautiful! I really love the look – and so simple with the torn post it notes. I am in awe, truly I am!! it looks just like a poppy. Thank you so much for playing along in our first challenge. xx

  2. Yummy scrumptious Hazel, love poppies (in fact I’ve just bought the Altenew poppy set last week and can’t wait to ink it up). Love the vibrant colours you’ve created with fantastic masking here.
